Embrace Your Unicorn Gets a Favicon!
I learned a new word recently: favicon.
If you already know what a favicon is, then you just went up 7.4 cool points in my book. Imagine me slow clapping for you on the other side of your screen. You deserve it.
If you don't know what a favicon is, don't worry. I've got your back. First and foremost, you need to know how to correctly pronounce it. I would hate for you to walk away from reading this post and try out using this word with that super cool handlebar-mustached barista at your local coffee shop and not say it right. That would be tragic. Minus 2.9 cool points at least. So please take note. It is not pronounced FAVE-i-con. I'm not going to let you make the same mistake I've been making for the past week. It is pronounced "favicon," like in "fabulous." Try it out a few times. "Favicon....favicon...favicon." Now we're on the track. Before you know it, we'll be as hip as the hippest internet hipsters ("I said a hip hop the hippie the hippie..." I digress.)
So what is this fabulous favicon I speak of? A favicon is a small icon that sits directly to the left of the website URL in the address bar up top. I had NO idea such a thing existed. After learning about favicons, I visited several websites of my favorite singers and writers, and guess what! They all had favicons. Talk about fancy. And do you know what's even fancier? Embrace Your Unicorn (EYU) now has its own favicon! (Go ahead and start slow clapping for me on your side of the screen, if you please).
Actually, you should really be slow clapping for Shane Miles, my good friend who offered to create the favicon for me. Shane is a graphic designer and one of the three minds behind Sheath Comics (you really should check them out!). Shane kindly created the favicon to show support for his friend and her Unicorn Mission. So, thank you, Shane!
This support in favicon form is only one of many examples of support I've received since the start of EYU. These past four week, I have received countless messages, texts, and comments. You have supported me by saying "You go, girl!" and "Me too!" and "Thank you." Thank YOU for your words of affirmation.
You have come up to me in the hallway and have given me the most authentic hugs. Thank YOU for genuine human connection.
You have quietly shared your "unicorn" story and some of you have even offered to share your story in my Guest Writer Wednesday spotlight. Thank YOU for your vulnerability. Your story has helped me, and I know it will help so many people.
You have gifted me unicorn-inspired keepsakes. Thank YOU for helping this unicornuate uterus diagnosis feel less isolating and scary.
I feel so seen. I feel so loved. I can't even put into words how much all of your support means to me and Cory. Every evening at dinner, Cory and I share something we are grateful for from that day. Today, I am grateful for favicons and farting unicorns. I am grateful for story-tellers and unicorn-embracers. I am grateful for you. You, fabulous, favicon-savvy you!
